On the long Provincial Highway 11, Baqi Observation Deck is said to be the most beautiful "turning point" of the road. When driving here from Hualien City, while going through the hairpin bends, you will notice the scenery changing suddenly from the verdant mountains on both sides to the vast Pacific Ocean, with Coastal Range towering majestically. Walking onto the observation deck and looking toward the east, the Pacific Ocean is so blue and healing, making people forget about all the trouble to go through to come here. Looking towards the south from the viewing platform, you will have a clear view of the top of Dashibi Hill on the south side of Jiqi Bay.
In addition to the observation deck, there is also a rest area here. There is a convenient small parking lot, clean toilets, and shops which provides a variety of hot and cold drinks, light meals, luwei (Taiwanese stew), and coffee. Sitting on the rustic wooden chair, in the cool sea breeze, would you like to take a nap here? Stretching toward the Pacific Ocean, you will be ready to set off again after the rest!
Below the observation deck, there is a plank trail about 100 meters long. At the end of the trail is a cool, shaded deck on the lawn. Visitors can take a break here, enjoy the coolness, and listen to the beautiful sounds of cicadas and birds.
