Believe in Better Travel

An invitation from the East Coast, sharing our commitment and blueprint for sustainability

Haipai・Sustainable East Coast

Convey your vision for sustainability.

Use action to write a gentle annotation for mountains and seas

Every step you take is a sustainable choice

Sustainability is no longer just a concept.

But a lifestyle that you and I can all participate in

Why Sustainable Travel?

"Sustainable travel" might sound serious,

but at its heart, it's simple: explore the world with a little more care.

It's not about giving things up — it's about gaining something deeper.

You gain more meaningful, more authentic experiences — and the quiet pride of being a responsible traveler on this planet.

It's a new way to leave beautiful footprints behind.

Travel light and return with full memories.

Every step you take is on the path to a better future.

Global Trends

According to the UN Tourism's Global Guidelines to Restart Tourism and One Planet: Travel with Care, the COVID-19 crisis highlighted the resilience of the tourism industry, the interconnectedness of stakeholders, and the importance of environmental protection. It emphasized the interdependence between tourism, the economy, society, and the environment — making sustainable travel a vital action in post-pandemic tourism recovery. Global market research also reveals that over 80% of travelers support sustainable tourism, and more than three-quarters expect providers to offer more eco-conscious travel options.

Local Practices

In Taiwan, the East Coast National Scenic Area boasts boundless Pacific coastlines, thriving intertidal ecosystems, diverse marine recreation, and rich layers of prehistoric and Austronesian cultural heritage. Here, local landscapes shape a distinctive lifestyle — one that merges leisure with land. "The more local, the more global." Through immersive, place-based "life-learning" experiences, the East Coast fosters unique travel offerings and continually innovates tourism products that reflect its "Travel in Sea-style" brand.

Looking Ahead

In the face of global shifts in the tourism industry, we must strengthen resilience, deepen environmental awareness, and invest in the social, ecological, and service infrastructure that supports the East Coast tourism base. Only through these efforts can we ensure sustainable development and align the East Coast with international sustainable tourism trends.

Sustainability Blueprint

We are committed to advancing sustainable tourism by implementing six core strategies and concrete actions that integrate sustainability into every visitor experience and local engagement.

品牌深耕・邁向國際

Rooted in Local Identity, Reaching the World

Deepening connections with local cultures and sharing our unique brand stories with the world.

強化在地連結

Strengthen Local Connection

We prioritize local, culturally distinctive businesses when leasing retail spaces and integrate indigenous community experiences with local lifestyles, creating employment and economic opportunities for the region.

推動在地經濟發展

Promote Local Economic Development

To boost the local economy, we organize events, participate in travel fairs and markets to promote regional products, and help local businesses expand their market presence. We also prioritize hiring local residents for key initiatives such as the Amis Folk Center and cleaning services projects, supporting community employment.

數據導向管理

Data-Driven Management

We adopt a data-driven management model, utilizing big data analytics to better understand target audiences and visitor preferences — enabling continuous improvements in marketing strategies and service quality.

部落多語導覽與文化遊程發展

Tribal Multilingual Guided Tours and Cultural Tour Development

We work with local communities to curate authentic indigenous cultural content and everyday wisdom, developing interpretive scripts for guided tours. Through a collaborative guide evaluation system, we ensure cultural integrity and professionalism. We also support local communities in enhancing their hospitality skills and English-language services. At our visitor centers, we've introduced multilingual support, including Amis language, to enhance our international readiness.

文化推廣與展示

Cultural Promotion and Display

In promoting indigenous culture, we collaborate with the Torik Tribe's Amis Kakeng music troupe, hosting music and dance performances at the Amis Folk Center. We've also established a dedicated cultural tourism section and launched the " Yilie! Travel in Sea-style!" brand to deepen tribal tourism. Tailored sub-brands target different visitor groups, allowing us to share the stories and spirit of the tribes with a wider audience.

Ecological Balance · Sustainable Co-prosperity

Rooted in respect for nature, we strive for harmony between tourism and the environment.

自然資源保育與監測

Natural Resource Conservation and Monitoring

To preserve biodiversity, we collaborate with local tribes to implement ecological monitoring programs across key terrestrial and marine sites. We also track and analyze water usage to promote better consumption habits, and have installed wastewater treatment systems to protect the environment.

文化尊重與規範

Cultural Respect and Norms

To safeguard indigenous traditions, we have established visitor guidelines for tribal areas. These emphasize cultural respect and outline appropriate visitor behavior to ensure minimal disruption to community life. Our website also provides information on cultural events and restrictions, helping preserve the solemnity and authenticity of local ceremonies.

資源循環與環境友善

Resource Circulation and Environmental Friendliness

We partner with local groups and artists to transform recycled materials into creative artworks displayed at visitor centers. Through beach cleanups and "Living with the Sea." campaigns, we encourage tourists to actively participate in environmental stewardship. Infrastructure-wise, we prioritize eco-certified products and green building materials in energy-efficient construction and renovations.

生態平衡_環境教育活動

Environmental Education Activities

We share ecological stories and event updates through social media to inspire public interest and action. Environmental education training sessions are held for residents and event participants, while educational spaces like the Xiaoyeliu Nature Classroom and Marine Environmental Education Center host regular activities in collaboration with schools to promote awareness and responsibility.

多方參與・共好機制

Multi-stakeholder Participation · Co-prosperity Mechanism

We believe in the power of collaboration — building sustainable partnerships grounded in fairness, transparency, and participation.

多方參與_建立參與式規章管理機制

Establish Participatory Regulatory Management Mechanism

We supported the formation of the Travel in Sea-Style Alliance Taskforce, a tribal-led initiative for organized community tourism development. Through sustainability capacity-building programs and collaborative resource management, we foster participatory planning to co-create a long-term vision for sustainability. We also established the "East of Taiwan" Tourism Circle — a platform to promote local products and services across the region.

多方參與_公平與永續採購

Fair and Sustainable Procurement

We actively promote green procurement practices to demonstrate our commitment to environmentally responsible operations.

居民與業者培力

Empowerment of Residents and Businesses

We conduct training programs for local communities focused on indigenous tourism, sustainable travel, and destination stewardship. This includes training tour leaders and eco-guides for the "Mahengheng to Chenggong 168" cycling brand and ecological monitoring. In addition, we support local tourism operators in applying for eco-certifications and co-market sustainable tourism experiences.

低碳減廢・循環旅遊

Low-carbon Waste Reduction · Circular Tourism

From transport to energy, we promote a circular, climate-conscious travel model.

廢棄物管理

Waste Management

To reduce waste generation, we enforce strict recycling and waste sorting practices. At all events, we minimize packaging and encourage the use of natural materials to lower per capita waste output.

能源管理

Energy Management

We are committed to increasing renewable energy use by installing solar systems. Energy consumption in scenic areas is closely monitored, and facilities are progressively upgraded to energy-saving appliances such as LED lighting and inverter systems.

綠色交通

Green Transportation

To support low-carbon travel, we promote Taiwan Tourist Shuttle cruise-style buses and the "Shared Rides across Hualien & Taitung" initiative. We also encourage visitors to explore the region by electric-assisted bicycles, offering a cleaner, more immersive travel option.
