Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and indulge in the artsy vibes of the Pacific Ocean.
On a cool summer night, people gather on the spacious lawn of the Duli Visitor Center. Colorfully adorned tents house various stalls, where visitors from around the world can stand, sit, or recline while enjoying a picnic in their preferred position. The music and performers on stage add to the festive atmosphere. Suddenly, everyone reaches for their cameras and gazes in awe toward the Pacific Ocean…
This magical scene unfolds during the annual East Coast Land Arts Festival – Moonlight Sea Concerts. Gathering under the moonlight has become a cherished tradition for devoted fans of the East Coast, symbolizing their connection to the mountains and sea. Following Provincial Highway 11 to explore artworks from previous years has also become a popular art tour.
The beautiful landscape and diverse culture of the East Coast have always captivated writers and cultured individuals. This land not only nurtures local talents but also attracts artists with creative energy and a free spirit. As a result, artworks that embody local characteristics, originality, modesty, or avant-garde modernity are created here. The inaugural East Coast Land Arts Festival took place in 2016. Alongside recruiting local artists, international artists were invited to the East Coast for residencies. Local indigenous artists, indigenous cultural and creative industries, art studios, and craftsmen also participated in "open studio" events, where they welcomed the public to discuss their creative philosophies and showcase their works.
There is a group of souls who yearn for nature, love freedom, and embrace creativity. They reside in inconspicuous Hualien and Taitung alleys or secluded studios nestled in mountains, forests, and by the seaside. These individuals express their ideal lives through various forms of creation. Some work with pottery, others engage in dyeing and weaving, while some use creative actions to fulfill their commitment to environmental sustainability.
The 'Open Studio' initiative brings together these artists, allowing them to share their hopeful artistic endeavors with the public. Through this platform, people can get to know this group of individuals who integrate art and aesthetics into their lives.
